Dr. Brian Norman, DVM

Dr. Brian Norman is a California native from Orange County. He attended UCLA for two years before transferring to Loyola Marymount University, where he earned his B.S. in Biology.

In 1999, Dr. Norman earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) from the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada. Following veterinary school, he completed a one-year rotating medicine and surgical internship, then a two-year Internal Medicine residency under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Ettinger at The California Animal Hospital.

He became a Board Certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2005, and continued at The California Animal Hospital in West Los Angeles as a partner and Internal Medicine Specialist until 2012. After selling the practice, he spent five years at a corporate specialty hospital in the San Fernando Valley.

Realizing the downfalls of large corporate medicine, Dr. Norman left the specialty hospital setting in October 2017 to start Dog and Cat Internal Medicine — a mobile specialty practice providing internal medicine in the comfort of clients' homes or in conjunction with their regular veterinarian. The mobile practice's success was immediate, and Dr. Norman quickly recognized he would need a permanent home base. When the current Calabasas facility became available, he knew it would be home to Dog & Cat Hospital Calabasas — a new veterinary hospital unlike any other in the area.

Dr. Norman has planted deep roots in the West San Fernando Valley, where he has resided for over 20 years. He lives nearby in Woodland Hills with his wife Michelle, a second-grade teacher at St. Mel Elementary, and their three children: Nicole, who plays Division 1 softball at Loyola Marymount University; Natalie, a student at Louisville High School just around the corner from the hospital; and Alex, a freshman at Crespi Carmelite High School.

The family recently lost their black labs Jack and Jett, at 15 and 17 years old. They rescued Madison, a 15-year-old maltese mix who could never replace the boys but has filled their hearts with joy again.
